3D deep embossed wood grain composite decking is a type of decking material that resembles the look and feel of real wood. It is designed to have a natural wood-like texture that adds warmth and depth to any outdoor space. The 3D deep embossed pattern gives the decking a realistic wood grain appearance, making it a popular choice among homeowners who want a classic, rustic look for their decks. This type of decking is made of wood fibres and plastic, makings it highly durable and low-maintenance. It is resistant to rot, decay, and insects making it an excellent deck choice for outdoor spaces exposed to the elements.
Co-extrusion composite decking is a type of decking that features a protective outer layer that is co-extruded onto the wood-plastic composite core. This protective layer is made of a highly durable material that offers resistance to scratches, stains, and fading caused by UV rays. This type of decking is ideal for outdoor spaces as it provides excellent durability, low maintenance, and a long lifespan. Additionally, co-extrusion composite decking is available in a range of colours and finishes, making it easy to find the perfect match for any outdoor space.
Composite decking offers several choices in the market, including 3D deep embossed wood grain decking and co-extrusion composite decking. These two types differ in their manufacturing process and appearance.
3D deep embossed wood grain composite decking uses a 3D embossing machine to press a wood grain pattern onto the composite material. This results in a realistic wood grain texture that looks and feels like natural wood. It also provides a visually appealing and anti-slip surface, making it suitable for outdoor use.
Co-extrusion composite decking combines two or more layers of composite material, with the top layer being durable and scratch-resistant and the bottom layer softer for cushioning and flexibility. This type of decking is ideal for high-traffic areas, such as pool decks or commercial properties, as it is extremely durable.
Ultimately, the choice between these two types of composite decking depends on personal preference and specific application requirements. Regardless of your choice, composite decking is an excellent option for anyone looking for a low-maintenance, long-lasting, and visually appealing decking material.
Co-extrusion composite fencing is a highly reliable and weather-resistant option that combines wood fibres and plastic. Using multiple layers of materials fused together through the co-extrusion process makes it incredibly durable and long-lasting. With its protective outer layer, it can withstand exposure to the elements with ease. Homeowners and businesses looking for a low-maintenance yet high-quality fencing option can confidently trust co-extrusion composite fencing to stand the test of time.
It's important to keep in mind that no composite decking product is completely fade-proof, no matter what brand you choose.
However, co-extrusion decking has a protective outer layer that can help prevent fading caused by UV rays and other environmental factors. This type of decking may experience a fade rate of around 3-4% over the deck's lifespan.
On the other hand, all uncapped composite decking will undergo a natural weathering process after installation. This is due to UV exposure and the natural oils in the wood being washed out with an initial fade rate of between 6-10 % in the first 3-6 months before stabilizing. The fade will be minimal after the initial weathering process.
It's important to note that 3D deep embossed uncapped deck boards have greatly improved over the years from first-generation. Our new generation of Eco Deck™ Prestige boards last had an upgraded anti-fade pigmentation in 2022.
With some light cleaning maintenance, you will have a beautiful deck for years to come, no matter what composite material you choose.
Yes, composite decking can get hot in direct sunlight, just like any other outdoor surface. However, some composite decking products have a lower heat retention rate than others, making them a better choice for areas with high temperatures. It's important to consider the climate in your area.
When it comes to heat resistance, hollow composite decking may be a better option than solid boards. This is because the hollow construction allows for better ventilation and airflow, which can help reduce the buildup of heat.
Additionally, other factors such as colour and texture can also play a role in how much heat the decking retains. Lighter colours and smoother textures tend to absorb less heat than darker colours and rougher textures.

To keep your composite decking clean and in good condition, start by sweeping away leaves and debris with a broom. Then, mix warm water and mild detergent solution (dish soap) and use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the deck. When you're done, rinse it off with a hose and let it air dry.
If using a power washer, ensure the maximum pressure doesn't exceed 1500 psi. Also, remember to spray in the direction of the grain of the boards and use a fan tip nozzle at least 6 inches away from the surface. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as these can damage the composite material.
Following these steps can keep your composite decking looking great for years.
When it comes to hidden fasteners for Eco Deck™ Prestige or Advanced deck board systems, you have two options: 3mm or 6mm. Both types of fasteners have been designed to allow for expansion, contraction, and drainage, and both are equally effective. The choice between the two comes down to personal preference and aesthetics.
One of the main differences between a 3mm stainless steel and a 6mm plastic fastener is the spacing between the deck boards. The 3mm fastener provides a tighter gap between the boards, while the 6mm fastener provides a slightly wider gap. If you prefer a tighter spacing, go for the 3mm option. The 6mm is the way to go if you prefer a wider spacing.
The 6mm plastic clips are popular because they are easy to install quickly. They also allow you to lift a single panel out of the run if you need to access the bottom of the deck at a certain spot. The 3mm metal clip is not as forgiving and will require you to disassemble the deck panels to reach the spot you need to access. You can read more about the installation process on the Eco Deck™ Installtion Guide page.
Colour is also something to consider, as the clips will be visible even if they are mostly hidden. You can choose between stainless steel or black plastic fasteners, depending on your preference.
In summary, both 3mm and 6mm fasteners work well with composite boards, and the choice between the two depends on personal preference and aesthetics. Whether you prioritize a tighter gap or ease of installation, both systems offer reliable concealed fastening options for composite decking projects.

Eco Deck has a calculator that can help determine the number of deck boards and fasteners needed. It is also a tool for estimating the cost of building deck flooring.
Eco Deck always recommends whoever is building your deck take proper measurements before ordering, as this is just a guide to provide an estimate.
Please follow the link- Eco Deck Calculator
The number of fasteners will depend on the joist spacing and deck design. Many builders frame decks with 16" on-center joist spacing. Others go with 12" on-centre joist spacing to minimize the chance of movement and provide a sturdier frame.
A fastener is required every time a joist meets a deck board.
For example- for joist spacing of 16" OC, you will need 13 fasteners for a 16ft (192") deck board length.
For 12"OC joist spacing, you will require 17 fasteners for a 16ft length.
Eco Deck has a calculator that can help you determine the number of fasteners needed based on 16"OC joists. You will need to adjust your calculations for other joist spacing manually.
Please follow the link- Eco Deck Calculator.
Eco Deck always recommends whoever is building your deck take proper measurements before ordering, as this is just a guide to provide an estimate.
It's also worth noting your local building code requirements for joist spacing as things change and become stricter.
Yes, starter fasteners will be needed for the first and last deck boards. They are used to install the perimeter deck boards to provide a clean, fastener-free appearance across the entire deck's surface.
Starter fasteners can be used for both edge boards and grooved deck boards.
Eco Deck™ recommends a fastener every 12" (300mm).
Clips are easy to install and are made of stainless steel to resist the elements. Clips are supplied in units of 25, including stainless steel screws.
Eco Deck provides a variety of options to finish your deck.
1. A popular and modern way is to design a picture frame deck using an Eco Deck™ bullnose edge board. The edge board also doubles perfectly for stairs.
2. L-shape corner trim 16ft lengths are easy to install and give your deck a perfectly crafted edge.
3. Colour-matching end caps add the finishing touch to your decking project. The durable end caps are made of plastic and are available in a convenient package of twenty.
Yes, Eco Deck™ Prestige fascia boards are also our main 16ft deck boards which double perfectly as fascia and provide a nice uniformed transition from deck to fascia.
This provides more options to use offcuts from the main deck area as fascia. They can be run vertically, horizontally or as stair risers.
Cutting composite decking is similar to cutting standard lumber; it just requires that you have the right tools for the job (as is the case with most projects).
We advise using a circular saw with a 45-tooth alternate top bevel finish blade to make your cuts. The number of teeth on the blade impacts the cut's speed and precision. A blade with fewer teeth will cut quickly but leave a rougher finish.
Alternatively, the higher the tooth count on the blade, the slower the cut but the more precise. Keeping this in mind, if you select a blade with an excessively high tooth count, you risk the cut being too slow and burning the material you are cutting.
